More about the maker:

Luigi Galimberti (1888–1957) was an Italian violin maker active in Milan during the first half of the twentieth century. Born in Seveso, north of Milan, he trained under Innocente Rottola and Romeo Antoniazzi and further refined his skills during a formative period in Paris. From 1928 to 1930 he worked for the renowned firm Monzino & Garlandi, alongside Romeo and Riccardo Antoniazzi, before establishing his own workshop in Milan, first at 7 Piazza Borromeo and later at 17 Via Dolomiti.

Galimberti was a highly prolific maker, producing a wide range of bowed instruments, including around thirty double basses, as well as numerous guitars. His violins were often built on Antoniazzi and classical models and are noted for their warm golden-yellow varnish, applied in both oil and spirit. His work received widespread recognition, earning medals at major national exhibitions in Rome and Florence.
