How does the hiring process work?
We have a 3-month minimum hire period for all new hires. You might want to return the instrument early; however, the three-month upfront payment must still be paid on the day of the hire, and we will take card details for future billing on this day also.
The payment for the initial 3-month hire is taken when you collect the instrument. Subsequent payments are deducted automatically in a monthly basis from a credit card that needs to be provided when you sign up. Once the instrument is returned, the payments will be instantly cancelled.
We will also need a WA Driver’s licence to hire with a current address on the card. In the absence of a licence, you may present a passport plus proof of address such as electricity or utilities bill.
Please note that a drop off and pick up delivery fee will apply for piano hires.

Do you rehair violin/viola bows?
Unfortunately, we do not offer that service. A bow rehair costs roughly $120, and if you are looking to rehair a student bow worth less than this amount, it is often more cost-effective to replace the whole bow.
However, if you have a high-quality bow worth rehairing, we recommend going to the following business:
West Violins
56 SELWAY Road, BRENTWOOD Western Australia 6153
Please do not hesitate to contact us on (08) 9244 9559 if you have any further questions.
Do you make house calls for the tuning of pianos?
Unfortunately, we do not offer this service. If you have purchased a piano from us and are eligible for a ‘Free Install Tuning’ within the first six months of purchase, we will direct you to one of the below piano tuners and have them invoice us directly for the cost of the tuning.

Can I bring my string instrument for repair/ service
Yes, we can perform repairs and services on stringed instruments. You will have to leave your instrument in the store and we will contact you when it is ready to be picked up.
When are you open?
Our opening hours are Monday to Saturday from 9am to 5 pm. Call us on (08) 9244 9559 if you have any questions.
Do you sell guitar strings/ drum sticks?
We don’t sell or repair any guitars or drums. As jazz and classical instrument specialists we are concentrated on orchestral string, wind, and brass instruments.
Do you have secondhand instruments?
We do stock a number of secondhand instruments for sale.
All of our secondhand instruments can be viewed on our website.
Do you sell keyboards/ electric pianos
I’m sorry but we do not sell keyboards or upright pianos. We have decided to concentrate on Yamaha upright and grand pianos, as well as our Kawai upright instruments and our fleet of acoustic upright hire instruments.
I have an instrument I no longer require. Will you buy my instrument or sell it on consignment?
We do not purchase instruments from the general public, nor do we have a consignment service for individuals looking to sell their instruments through a store or agent.
We recommend that people attempt to sell their used or unwanted instruments on Gumtree, Facebook Marketplace, or even contact university conservatoriums or high schools about advertising your instrument to students.
Secondhand instruments are most likely to be bought around the start of the school year as this is when parents and teachers are most interested in buying musical equipment.
Do you verify instruments for individuals looking to make a private purchase?
Unfortunately, this is not a service we can offer. As much as we would like to help, we would not want to be responsible for a possible difference in opinion on quality, repairs needed etc. You should try contacting a professional performer or specialist technician of the instrument that you are looking to purchase as they will have the best idea as to the value and quality of the instrument in question.
Do you do trade ins?
We can offer trade-ins of student level violins, violas, cellos, and double basses based on the following criteria:
- You are purchasing another instrument from us and you intend to put the credit of the trade-in instrument towards the purchase of this instrument.
- The instrument has been purchased new from us and is one of the major brands that we stock (I.e. Schumann Prodigy, Paganini 500)
- The instrument is in excellent condition. This means that there are minimal surface marks on the varnish, the strings are in good condition and hold their tuning, the bow has plenty of hair attached and has been wound down after every use, and the case is in good condition.
- If we have a need for the instrument. All trade-in instruments go into our fleet of hire stock, and we will only accept an instrument for trade-in if we require the size and model of instrument you are offering.
Please note that we cannot offer the full value of the instrument as a trade-in credit. For this reason, we strongly encourage you to attempt to sell the instrument yourself on the secondhand market (I.e. Gumtree, Facebook Marketplace) as you will be able to recoup a higher percentage of the original cost of the instrument than if you traded it in with us.
What do I need to be able to hire an instrument?
All we require for our hire records is a form of proof of current address, two phone numbers, an email address, and card details for a card capable of online payments (i.e. with the VISA/ MASTERCARD logo.) For more information, see <hyperlink to How does the hiring process work? FAQ>

Our return policy is in adherence with Australian consumer law. We are not required to provide a refund or replacement if you change your mind.

- Is unsafe.
- Is significantly different from the sample or description.
- Doesn’t do what we said it would, or what you asked for and can’t be easily fixed.
Alternatively, you can choose to keep the item and we will compensate you for any drop in value.
If the problem is not major, we will repair the item within reasonable time. If it is not repaired in a reasonable time, you can choose a refund or replacement.
Can you tune my string instrument for me?
Of course! We are more than happy to help you tune your instrument. We do, however, encourage you doing it yourself or having a professional or teacher handle the tuning. Please visit our blog How to Tune Your String Instrument – WA Music Co
Alternatively, you can come to our store and one of our friendly staff will be able to assist you.
Our opening hours are Monday to Saturday from 9am to 5 pm. Please call us on (08) 9244 9559 if you have any questions.
Do you Ship Harps interstate?
We do! Many of our harp customers are from interstate, and we are more than happy to have one of our harps delivered to your doorstep. We freight harps across the country with TNT, and the cost of freight depends on your location and the value of the harp you’d like to purchase.
TNT delivery costs vary according to postcode and whether the address supplied is residential or commercial. If you have access to a commercial address (I.e. a warehouse, business, or school), it is cheaper for TNT to deliver your goods. Shipping with TNT incurs ”Class C” Fragile Goods insurance, which is $6.60 per every $100 amount. You are welcome, however, to organize your own insurance if you prefer.
Please call us on (08) 9244 9559 or visit our website for more info: Harps – WA Music Co
Can I try a woodwind instrument before purchasing it?
Yes, you are welcome to try the instrument. It would be kindly appreciated if you could bring your own mouthpiece and reeds. If you decide to not to buy the instrument after trying it, a $20 workshop sterilization fee will apply. We believe that every customer has the right to a completely sterilized, new instrument and so any instrument that has been tried and not bought will go through a complete body and mouthpiece sterilization before it can be offered again for sale.

Absolutely! We would be more than happy to pop most items in the post and have it delivered to you.
Small items such as instrument accessories and smaller instruments (I.e., flutes, clarinets) can be ordered directly from our website and shipping information can be input directly into the order and processed automatically. These items will be posted via Australia Post. If a smaller item does not have a shipping option available on our website, please let us know by contacting us at (08) 9244 9559 or sales@wamusic.com.au.
For very large instruments such as harps, we freight these with TNT. TNT delivery costs vary according to postcode and whether the address supplied is residential or commercial. Stringed instruments (violins, violas etc.) will be ineligible for postage. Due to the fragility of stringed instrument in transit and issues with bridges and sound posts collapsing we are not able to provide warranties or able to correct problems through our service centre. For this reason we do not post stringed instruments.
How do I know the right size string instrument for my child?
Coming in store and letting one of our friendly staff ascertain the correct size instrument for your child is always an option. However, we recommend you reading our blog to have a better idea: Choosing the Right Size String Instrument – WA Music Co
What happens if I need to change the size of my instrument? Can I upgrade the size of my string instrument on the same rental contract?
Absolutely! If your child is ready to go up to the next size violin, viola, cello, or double bass, we can swap your instrument out with a larger size and amend the contract to reflect this swap. As with other return instruments, we will just have to inspect the returned instrument to make sure the instrument is in good condition and that all the accessories included have been returned.
Can I swap my current hire instrument for a different type of instrument on the same hire plan?
Whilst a rental plan doesn’t change in the case of swapping over a size, if you are looking to swap for a different instrument entirely we would need to cancel your original contract and begin a new one with your preferred instrument.
Do I have to be an Australian resident to hire an instrument?
All instruments hired from WA Music require proof of address for our records. You don’t have to be a legal Australian resident, but we will require formal proof of residence so we can know where the instrument is being kept. Proof of address may be located on documents such as pay slips, utility bills, (i.e. electricity, gas) or accommodation booking confirmations.
What if I lose or damage my hire instrument?
We understand that accidents happen, and that instruments are fragile objects. If an instrument sustains any sort of damage during an accident, you can bring the instrument back to us for repair. We will provide you with a quote for the repair, and when the repair has been completed, you can pick the instrument up and pay for the repair there and then.
If you lose your rental instrument, you will be liable to pay for the cost of a replacement instrument. These costs vary according to instrument and will be subject to the availability of brands and models at the time of the loss. To determine how much is owed on a lost instrument, contact us at sales@wamusic.com.au.
Can I hire more than one instrument at a time?
Absolutely! However, these instruments will be on separate contracts in the event that you elect to return one earlier than the other. There is no discount for hiring multiple instruments at once.
Can I buy my rental instrument?
Unfortunately we are not able to sell our rental instruments to our customers as they are considered dedicated hire stock and are priced as such. If you’d like to purchase a new version of the same model instrument that you are currently hiring, you can check out WA Music Co. at www.wamusic.com.au for all your new instrumental needs.
Can my friend/family member collect my hire instrument in person on my behalf?
If we receive email confirmation from you that you’ll have someone else collect your hire instrument on your behalf, that is not a problem.
How much should I insure my hire instrument for?
We recommend insuring your instrument for the entire cost of a replacement instrument. Speak to one of our friendly representatives in store or contact us at sales@wamusic.com.au for an estimate on the replacement cost for your instrument.
How do I return my hired instrument?
All you have to do is visit WA Music Co at Shop 1/3 Morris Place, Innaloo WA 6018, and present your instrument for inspection. After we have made sure the instrument is in good condition and all provided accessories are present (bows, neck straps, cleaning swabs), we will cancel your account on the spot. There is no need to book in with us for a returned hire drop-off- simply come by whenever is most convenient for you!
Do you stock student clarinets?
Yes, we do! It is important to get a good quality student clarinet with pads that seal perfectly and a high grade mouthpiece. We would recommend the Yamaha YCL255 as a great student clarinet to buy. The Yamahas have great reliability as well as resell value. Other brands of clarinets that should also be considered however are Jupiter and Martin.
Do you stock student flutes?
We do stock student flutes. The Yamaha YFL212 and the Yamaha YFL222 are the most popular in our range of student flutes for great reliability and ease of playing. The difference between the YFL212 and the YFL222 is the split E mechanism in the YFL212 which is a feature meant to enhance the production of the high E note, making it more responsive and tonally stable, by simultaneously closing two keys, providing better control and intonation in the upper register of the instrument.
Both of these Yamaha models are perfect for students but you may check with your teacher first which model they prefer.
Other brands of flute worth considering for purchase are Trevor James and Vito which offer great quality and longevity.
Do you stock student saxophones?
Yes we do! Our most popular student saxophone is the YAS 280. This is an excellent quality student saxophone. Other models worth considering may be the YAS 480 which is considered an intermediate level saxophone. The Trevor James TJ-3722G is also a popular brand and the Martin alto saxophone offers a more affordable option.
Do you stock student trumpets?
Yes, we have a wide range of trumpets. The most popular trumpet models for students are the Yamaha YTR2330 trumpet and the Martin silver plate trumpet. Both offer excellent tone and quality.
Do you provide a warranty on sold items?
For all new products sold at WA Music we offer a 3 year warranty. Secondhand instruments carry their own specific warranties which are listed in our product descriptions online. Due to the fact that stringed instruments
