FOM Metal Cello Mute
This is a great mute to use when you don’t want to disturb your neighbours or roommates while practicing. Since it is made of nickel-plated brass and quite heavy, you get a very muted sound, but still get a clear tone.
If you plan to practice mostly at night or when others are sleeping, this mute is a must have.
Metal mutes have their own challenges. Accidentally dropping a rubber (or even ebony) mute on your instrument likely won’t damage it, but the FOM metal cello mute is heavy and unforgiving. While they are clearly the most effective tool for dampening your sound, you’ll need to take extra care when putting it on or removing it.
